Please see the following message from UWFA President Dr Jacqueline Romanow:
UWFA Members are likely aware of the growing international school strike for climate movement, in which students take time off from class to participate in demonstrations, seeking action to prevent further global warming and climate
change on Friday, September 27, 2019. UWFA is whole-heartedly committed to sustainability and recognizes the critical need for immediate action to address climate change and the future of our planet.
We encourage all available and interested faculty members and students to participate in the international strike, however please note that the University of Winnipeg has not cancelled classes for the day. UWinnipeg students that would like to participate in the international strike for climate movement have been encouraged by the University to communicate with their instructors in advance to determine if alternative arrangements can be made. Decisions regarding academic accommodation for students who wish to take part in the strike action are at the discretion of UWFA Members. The University, however, has not authorized faculty to cancel any classes. UWFA does not have the authority
to encourage the cancellation of any classes by its Members, nor can it guarantee protection for those Members that do.
